Planet of the Apes RPG (a bit more info...)

I mentioned yesterday about the upcoming Planet of the Apes RPG, I have a bit more information today.

"The game will use the Magnetic Variant system which is a variation of the D6 System created by West End Games for their licensed RPGs Ghostbusters and Star Wars in the 1980s."

It will have resin miniatures.  Here's some new pictures...

I'll be watching this one very closely.  I still have my copy of Apes Victorious, but this could be interesting.  Stay Tuned!

Carnage of the Apes!

I had a appointment today that took me near a comic shop I used to frequent.  I used to really get into comics "back in the day", but for various reasons (cost being one) I haven't bought much in the way of comics in quite some time.  Anyway, I had a few extra minutes so went into the comic shop.  I spotted the below issue on the shelf and got excited.

Unfortunately, the Apes were just on the cover and had nothing to do with the content.  I think this was a missed opportunity.  Apparently Marvel has the Planet of the Apes license again and are doing variant Ape related covers on their main comic lines to promote it.  Personally, I think it would be really cool to have Carnage "zapped" through a portal and end up in The Forbidden Zone!  Imagine the Cat (er I mean Carnage) and Mouse games of him hunting down Soldier Apes in the ruins! Would make for a fun and entertaining one shot story-line.  Maybe could adapt this to an Apes Victorious or Mutant Future game. Personally I love pulling in stuff from all kinds of sources for my games, that's one of the things I especially love about the OSR, you can really mix and match, tweak and adapt all kinds of things to make the sort of campaign you and your group really want.

The Monkey Militia

It's been awhile, but long time followers of my blog will know that I am an AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego).  In particular I love the minifigs. Pictured above is the results of a rather long term project of picking up any of the Lego Chima Gorilla minifigures that I could find, while outfitting them with appropriate weapons and gear. Combat knives, Assault Rifles and Tactical Vests.  Not sure about the leader with the Katana and Owl, but we shall see.  Anyways, I present to you The Monkey Militia.  I should have waited till Saturday to post this, for a Simian Saturday post, but here it is early.  I'm hoping to work these into some Skirmish gaming soon. Maybe as a rival gang for Five Parsecs from Home, Space Weirdos, or something else?  Do any of you use lego Minifigs for your tabletop games?

Post Apocalyptic Terrain

My last post showcased a couple of Post Apocalyptic minis I recently acquired. Which made me realize I really need to enhance my collection of P.A. minis and terrain.  Not that I need much encouragement to buy more minis.  : )
I placed an order with Acheson Creations, and wow I'm really impressed with the price and quality!
I will get these painted up and be ordering  more stuff from Acheson Creations very soon!
Also I have recently gotten the PDF for Zona Alfa
Zona Alfa is a tabletop skirmish game, very closely tied to the Stalkers video games! P.A. tabletop gaming in the ruins of Chernobyl! Cool!  I have also ordered the print version of the rules, since the PDF was so cool.  I have a buddy who is interested in trying out the rules with me, so hopefully more to come about this one! Plus any minis or terrain I use for Zona Alfa will work for any P.A. RPG play that I do, and vice versa.  My Old School Essentials game is going well, but it helps me to keep a game going if I am able to also work on things for other stuff. So while I am DMing a Fantasy OSE game, I am doing loose prep for a possible P.A. game down the road.  I hope you all have a great Friday/Weekend!
Good Gaming! -B.B.

Happy Simian Saturday!

I hope everyone is having a nice Simian Saturday, due to real life events I've had to take put gaming, blogging etc. on the back burner for a bit, but I'm still around. In the meantime Needles has just done a fun post over on the Swords & Stitchery blog regarding the classic PotA's and Gamma World.
On the Apes Victorious front, Dan Proctor just recently announced that the kickstarter for the Apes Victorious RPG should be launching very soon!  Needless to say I am very excited!

Happy Simian Saturday; Labyrinth Lord, Fungus Forest and more!

Well I want to wish everyone a happy Simian Saturday...
The good news is that I got to play Labyrinth Lord last night- Woo Hoo!
The bad news is my 4th level magic user DIED!  In TOWN!! NOOOO!!!
We had a blast, but lets just say my wizard made some risky (poor) decisions that came back to bite him, well pummel him in this case.  Making shadowy deals with mysterious wizard guilds, and secretly screwing over (i.e. exposing to a curse) an entire town for my own personal gain are definitely decisions not to be made lightly!  RIP - Jafnorr Wintergrim you will be missed.
I had fun, and even though my character died, for 4 short hours all the stress and problems of work, school and life drifted away, No deadlines, no frustrating managers, no real life issues; I was sitting with friends, laughing and fighting monsters and having a ball, for me that's what it is all about.
Anyways I've got a full day of stuff to do, wrapping up another course in Graduate School, Final Projects this week, ugh! So this post will be kind of a mish mash in order to get everything in, before I have to run errands with She Who Must Be Obeyed (I'm joking, my wife is great and probably the most supportive and easy going woman on Earth).
First it is Simian Saturday so I would be remiss in not wishing everyone a wonderful Simian Saturday. The Apes Victorious Google Group has 50 members, WOO HOO! I think this is fantastic especially considering the game has not been released yet.  Hopefully we will here more news on a release date for this OSR game soon. I'm still hoping for a late summer release, but haven't heard any updates on this in a bit, I know it is being worked on as I type this, and the snippets I know about sound like loads of fun.

Shifting to another OSR topic.  Back when I first started this blog, several years ago, I was playing a ton of Mutant Future, and I had the pleasure of reading and interacting with Carl Nash the author of the Mutagenic Substances Blog. He recently released a PWYW OSR product titled: The Fungus Forest!  I spent a bit of time reading through this product this morning and I really like what I see.

It features a vast underground cavern system filled with all kinds of fungi. I can see either placing this right into your Fantasy OSR game of choice, or even swiping a select few of the different cavern regions for unique encounters in your settings version of the Underdark. I love using Factions in my games and this product features several interesting factions, some of which are quite unusual.  I think Carl and Lee have done an excellent job and you can't beat the price. I believe a print version is due out soon, if you are running any kind of underground/underdark adventures I think this product would be an excellent resource for you.
I give this one a definite Simian Saturday Thumbs up!

Star Trek meets Planet of the Apes Simian Saturday Style!

Happy Simian Saturday Everyone!
Our Apes Victorious Google+ Group continues to grow and we've had some excellent posts already, really cool considering the Apes Victorious RPG hasn't been released yet.  Last year a fun limited series comic came out meshing classic POTA with TOS Star Trek!  Since the Apes Victorious RPG will work with Goblinoid Games Starships & Spacemen RPG this comic series seems like perfect inspiration for a crossover Apes/Spacemen game!

How cool is that cover?!
I found a picture of the series co-writer Scott Tipton's Mego collection, check this out!
You can see more of his pictures HERE.Have a wonderful Simian Saturday!

Happy Simian Saturday Everyone!

It has been a busy week down here in the Southern Wasteland, Brutorz Bill continues his advanced training with The Healers, meanwhile lots of activity on the Simian Front!  Reports indicate the Apes are growing in power and strength branching out far beyond Ape City, and even sending scouting parties into the Forbidden Zone. An Ape Victory seems imminent!  But wait what is that burning fireball shooting across the sky...it almost looks like a ...ship? : )
Our Apes Victorious G+ Group is growing, the game's designers and developers have even been gracious enough to drop by to say hello and share some updates.  So if your interested in this upcoming OSR-based RPG please drop by and say hello.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Simian Saturday!

Apes Victorious!

I know it isn't Simian Saturday yet, but I'm just so psyched about this upcoming RPG from Goblinoid Games that I had to not only blog about it, but I just started a G+ community about it as well:
Apes Victorious
Not much going on over in the community yet, but I'm hoping that will be changing very soon.  If you love the POTA and RPG's especially OSR games, then please consider joining the Apes Victorious G+ community.
For more info about this upcoming RPG check out the official announcement HERE
