    Heck, the Apes' depicted tech level was essentially 19th century/Old West anyhoo (I'm thinking particularly of the apes posing with dead humans for a daguerrotype). Why not go full-bore?

    Have you looked at the Savage Worlds Mars setting? It has a playable race of white apes. It's a real Flash Gordon or Barsoom sort of setting.
