Hunter Prey

I posted about this movie awhile ago. I just read where it will be available as a direct to DVD release in December. I may just have to pick this up.  Looks pretty cool. Could make for some fun Traveller (or other sci fi) game inspiration!

Simian Saturday

Well here in the States election day approaches, don't worry I'm not about to do a political post at least not too overt of one. But...whatever party, political outlook or leaning you are, please take the time on election day to vote!

Simian Saturday

Happy Simian Saturday everyone!  Haven't posted much lately, work has reared its ugly head again.
Due to scheduling we had to bump our next Labyrinth Lord game session to November, but it is still on track.
Hope you get some gaming in this weekend.

Rusty the Rust Monster

When I was a kid I actually had the plastic monster that Gygax based the Rust Monster on.
While I lost the plastic beastie many many years ago (not to mention the original was way to big for use with 28mm minis, unless your creating a Giant Dire Rust Monster!), I've been on the hunt for awhile now for a suitable 28mm Rust Monster for my collection.  I've found a few on Ebay over the years, but they quickly went beyond what I was willing to pay for a mini.  I finally lucked out and got one for a good price, an added bonus was that it was even painted to a good tabletop standard.
He arrived via mail today.

Rusty the Rust Monster
Curiously he was shipped in a METAL Altoids container, must have been fast shipping indeed, otherwise ole' Rusty would have eaten through the metal and escaped!

Jurassic Reich & Hamster Berserkers!

Here's another quick post about miniatures today!
While surfing the net I found these!

WWII Germans mounted on Dinosaurs!  Oh my Stars and Garters!!! They are from Eureka Miniatures.
These look soo cool and while I'll admit Pulp isn't necessarily my first game of choice, I see these as being perfect for Mutant Future, Encounter Critical and  all kinds of other games, in addition to pulp!
You could even have them fight these guys!! Hamster Berserkers!!!
Just released by On the lamb games.

Man I love this hobby!
Hmmm now where did I put my debit card....

I love Minis!!

My name is Brutorz Bill and I'm a minis-aholic.  I love collecting Miniatures.  28mm, 15mm,  terrain, toys that can be used as minis, more and more...and...
Ok...sorry lost myself for a moment.
Anyways I resisted buying minis for awhile. It was hard but I did it. Then Christian over at Destination Unknown started posted his latest minis purchases, and that itch of mine just had to be scratched!
I went out to Miniatures Market found a ton of prepainted minis for as low as .25 cents!
Here's what the mail man brought me yesterday:

Sorry for the blurry pics but you get the idea.  All of these were under a dollar each, and many were in the .25-.35 cents range. Mostly Star Wars, Hero clix and Horro clix but they work just fine for my gaming purposes! Some will work better with Mutant Future than Labyrinth Lord but for .25 cents ya can't lose! At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it! LOL
Anyways gotta run, I have to go sort my minis!

Mutant Monday News...

Not sure this will be a regular blog feature, but thought I'd post some of the Post Apocalyptic RPG related items that I've come across of late.
While I am continuing to have a blast with Labyrinth Lord, I don't want to let some news on the Mutant Front get away (hmmm the Mutant Front? now there's a campaign idea!, oh sorry back on track). I've gotta be careful, I've got the dreaded Defect of Gamer ADD that I must keep in check!

I've recently gotten an update that The Mutant Epoch RPG is slated for a late October release.  I've chatted with these guys a bit, they are some great folks, the artist did alot of the Goodman Games DCC's back in the 3.5 era.

On the Mutant Future front, there are some great products in the pipe from Skirmisher, I can't really say much about them (I'm such a tease), but I don't think Mutant Future Players will be disappointed.

Dark Horse comics will release the new Samson Post Apoclyptic Comic series in December.
Trey gives a great write-up about the original series on his blog. (special thanks to Jay for pointing out the new comic series coming out).

I recently found where WotC will be releasing some fiction for the new Gamma World game, old news but I just now found it. I have deliberately NOT posted my opinion about the upcoming Gamma World game, I think I'll continue that trend for now...

And on my latest trip to the FLGS I spotted the below item on the shelf!
Of course I had to pick it up! I can't read it yet though, I don't want to get thrown off track from my Labyrinth Lord Campaign. The map on the back is sweet, all kinds of kingdoms and nations that I really want to know more about! Anyways just thought I'd share the radioactive love with the mutant masses!

Nerd Sunday Success! Labyrinth Lord Style!

I just got in from my very first session DMing (or should I say Labyrinth Lording?) the new Labyrinth Lord group.  You may recall I recently put together a flyer looking for players.  Well today was our first session!  I had a blast and I think everyone else did as well.  Folks were really getting into the Old School vibe.  I slipped into some 3.xisms a couple of times but got better as we played. Two folks couldn't make it and one was a no show, but I still had 4 great players in attendance.  One guy, smiled and said  this IS ROLE-Playing not ROLL-Playing!  I couldn't agree more! The player who played Autumnus and I have been trying to get together and game for a year now, I hope he had as much fun as I did.

The Cast:
Nim & Min : human "merchants" (read Assassins) twin brothers
Oliver the half-elf thief
Autumnus the elf magic user
They had a couple of NPC's a henchman Ranger who didn't talk much named "Injun Joe" and a hireling,of sorts, Skippy the Halfling, who talked too much.
The party arrived in the northern town (formerly city) of Threshold in the Black Peaks region and met over drinks at the Shady Dragon Inn.  Oliver attempted to woo a fetching lass ( a robed mystery woman with a black cat) by buying her cat soup! (he had a wisdom of 4), she was more confused than anything else.  Oliver then made the mistake of chatting with a group of halflings ( The Callowtoe Clan? Gang?) long story for another day. They eventually (after flattering Ebenezer the Old) gained an audience with Belrain the Sword_Singer the local authority and got a job to recon a ruined moathouse and possibly clear out any bandits or monsters therein. Knowing they were short of muscle and not great in the wilds, Nim or was in Min? Spent a good bit of gold hiring the skilled tracker "Injun Joe", this helped them avoid what would have been some tough wilderness encounters.  They did a great job infiltrating the ruined moathouse, well everyone but Skippy, and through stealth, trickery, guile and alot of luck got inside, killed or drove away several brigands, killed a bugbear and made their way down below through an old secret door that Autumnus detected. We were supposed to wrap up at 6 but everyone wanted to keep going so we squeezed in another hour, which allowed enough time for the Assassin, I mean "merchant" Min (or was it Nim?) to assassinate an ogre while the ogre was attempting to relieve itself (Gnomes cause diarrhea don't ya know).
The wild thing is no one died!  Well no one but Skippy (he was eaten by a giant frog just outside the moathouse). There were a few close calls, but the party (veteran gamers, though some were new to Old School) played smart throughout the day and accomplished alot!
Course they still have to get out of the dungeon alive and deal with the pissed off Callowtoe Halflings.
All in all a great day!  Good to be gaming again!

Simian Saturday : Gorilla Knight

I'm still on my Labyrinth Lord path (must fight off Gamer ADD) and I found this awhile back, a classic tweaked by the artist Gunmetal.  Thought the Gorilla Knight looked pretty cool.
Happy Simian Saturday!

The Compendium of Weapons, Armour & Castles

This one has been on my list for awhile, I had and lost a copy of it many years ago.  While it is done by Palladium Books it is useable for any RPG that features ancient weapons, armor and castles.

This tome is a great resource for the game table. I remember back in my early days of playing AD&D trying to figure out what some of the different polearms looked like, ya know how that a Lucern Hammer was not a hammer at all? How did we survive before the invention of the internet and Google? : ) Anyways this book has tons of stats and illustrations of various historical weapons and such.

Even better John over at the Land of Nod has posted conversion notes for Labyrinth Lord!
No more basic Swords and Axes for my games! Woo Hoo!
Oh and price was an UNBELIEVABLE Bargain!
I got this off of Amazon for...drum roll please....
.27 CENTS!!
You can't beat that!
