I recently acquired this product after hearing mention of it over on the Mutagenic Substance blog. I've gotta tell you this is a Great resource for mutant future or any mutant related campaigns. To play the game as designed you are basically law enforcers keeping the peace against some seriously twisted mutants lurking in the slums of a dark and gritty future. That's ok, but is not what jumps out at me. Where this game really shines is in it's mutant generation rules. You can really go to town and roll up some interesting and quite freakish looking mutants. One thing I'd like to see more of in Mutant Future is a greater variety of mutations. After making several NPC's and mutant beasts I've found the mutations become a bit repetitive. With this book you can really create alot of individuality in your mutants.
The book is long OOP but still around in places. So if you can snag it up for a decent price I highly recommend it.

I'm glad you found a copy. I have been meaning to run a contest at my blog for a while now to give away a shrink-wrapped copy of the Mutazoid Game Master's Screen, which has the full mutant generation tables on it as well as a funny mini-adventure.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure that even though the game says the PCs are meant to play police fighting the mutants, that was to pay lip service to political correctness. Why else would they include that awesome random mutation generation system if they didn't want you to play a Mutazoid?
Hey Carl,
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting about it awhile ago, if not for your blog I would have missed out on it. Your probably right about the "PC's are meant to be police" part. With all the mutant generation tables and stuff it just seems to make more sense for the players in the game to be mutants.
Thanks again,
Bill
Love that cover!
ReplyDeleteThere's some mutazoids stuff here for 3rd edition.

I agree that MF is a bit narrow in the scope of the mutations and character options. It could really use a character companion.
ReplyDeleteI've got my original copy, 1st printing. I should dig it out and give it a read. has anyone ever written a comprehensive list of all the PA games?
ReplyDeleteTetsubo,
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea, I don't know if there is a comprehensive list out there. Would love to see/hear about it if there is.
Mutazoids 3d and classic 1st and 2ed edition reprints are available at http://lgimarkets.com and should be on Amazon as well.
