Into the Odd

I recently came across a rules-lite RPG that has really sparked my interest.  Yes, I know you are thinking good grief man, don't you have enough RPG's on your shelf that you don't have time to play as it is?  All true, all very true.  However, the issue regarding limited (ok, nonexistent) free time, is what has drawn me back to the OSR and rules lite gaming. This from a guy who  used to regularly DM Pathfinder.  Thanks to games like White Star, I'm find myself with a renewed interest in rules-lite systems.  That's where Into the Odd comes in.  This is a really awesome and fun RPG that I can't wait to play.  I saw where someone compared it to if Lamentations of the Flame Princess and Numenera had conceived a love child and I can see that.  You can literally make up a character in under 5 minutes.  Combat is super-fast and lethal, and the game has a cool freshness to it, that a sometimes jaded old gamer like myself finds refreshing. You can find out more about the game HERE.

Happy Halloween!

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween!
I wanted to draw attention to Justin's Field Guide to Doomsday blog.  He has been posting some truly inspired Scooby-Doo Mutant Future (What's Nuked Scooby Doo) mash-up posts, that I can't wait to use in my next Mutant Future game. He has been posting like a mad man, and his critters are truly inspired! I need to dust off my Mutant Future books and get back to some Mutant Future gaming!

White Star Wednesday: The Omoc

Here's a conversion of one of my favorite races from Defiance done up for the White Star RPG, I changed the spelling of the name slightly but you know who they are.  Anyways, I hope you like them, I worked these up using the Hyperspace Messenger #3 Aliens supplement.

 Omoc
The Omoc  are purple-skinned, lean muscular  humanoid alien race, with stark white hair and long eyebrows, although most males are bald. They can open their jaws extra wide and a second set of teeth will emerge out of their mouths to aid in eating and combat.
The Omoc are a race in decline, in the past they preyed upon other races, raiding other worlds for slaves, servants and food.  However, their world was destroyed when their sun went nova.  Other races with a millennia's worth of grudges secretly sabotaged Omoc ark-ships designed to save their race from destruction.  Few of the Omoc survived this betrayal, now a fragment of what they once were, the Omoc are lost and scattered across the galaxy searching for a new world to call home but wanted by none, hated by many, and feared by all. Omoc have made remarkable advances with stun weaponry and advanced drone technology.
Weapon & Armor Restrictions: Omoc prefer to fight with their bare hands and fangs, although they are proficient with Stun-staff, Daggers and Mono-Daggers.  Omoc wear light armor and refuse to use shields.
Saving Throws: Omoc are a hardy race and have amazing saving throws.  They have a +2 to save vs. death and poison.
Senses: Omoc have a keen sense of smell, granting them a +1 on any checks related to smell. Can identify people and track by their scent alone.
Cut Resistance: Omoc take half damage from knives, swords, axes, and other modes of attack which specifically cut or slash.
Carnivore Jaws: Omoc can open their jaw extra wide and a second set of carnivorous fangs will emerge (1d6 damage)
Combat Monster: Extra attacks per round equal to level which may only be used against foes of 1 HD or fewer
Cause Fear or Hesitation: With a fearsome glare an Omoc can cause  victims in melee range be -2 To-Hit unless they pass a Saving Throw, 1/day.
Strong & Hardy: Omoc are a physically strong and hardy race; gain +1 to strength and constitution scores.
Arrogant: Omoc tend to view other alien races as playthings and food, this colors how they interact with other races; -1 to charisma scores.

Level   XP         HD    BHB    ST
1            0          1      +0       12
2          2,500     2      +1       11
3          5,000     3     +2        10
4        10,000     4     +2         9
5        20,000     5     +3         8
6        40,000     6     +4         7
7        80,000     7    +4          6
Special: If the heart of an Omoc Patriarch (7th Level)  is devoured by another Omoc, that Omoc may gain a bonus level beyond the normal racial level limits for their race.

White Star Week Continues : Need some more Aliens?

As I continue to read my copy of the White Star RPG, I'm getting all kinds of exciting campaign ideas. Graduate school and work have kind of killed my blogging and my gaming for that matter, but White Star has really gotten me excited about gaming again.  One thing I would like to see for the game is more aliens!  I've always been  a Mos Eisley Cantina Aliens kinda GM.  I recently acquired a great addition for White Star that you may want to check out!
For only a $1.00 you can get a great little pdf that has some very well done alien creation rules for your White Star Campaigns.  If you like White Star then you need to pick up Hyperspace Messenger #3 by DWD Studios!  It does follow the races as class concept that White Star goes with so if that isn't your think you may have some quibbles with this product, but I love it and have been happily working up new aliens for my upcoming game.  I'll post one of my favorites from Defiance Season #3 shortly.

Post Apocalyptic RPG Stuff!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!  It's extra hot in the Southern Rad Zone today.  The nearby Pure Strain Human radio tower is sending out heat advisory warnings today.  Sissy humans, can't take the heat.
This entry is kind of a catch all for various Post Apocalyptic RPG stuff.
I continue to read over my copy of The Flesh Weavers for The Mutant Epoch RPG, its is a fun adventure, I especially love the pregens in the back complete with illustrations. Outland Arts has a  ton of great Freebies/Pay what you want for The Mutant Epoch RPG over on RPGNow.  Check 'em out!

If Pathfinder is more your game, I just found where Fall of Man has been released, this one caught me by surprise, I remember it was in an unsuccessful kickstarter last year, but seems they have moved forward with releasing it.  I don't know much else about it, so I'd be curious to hear what people think about it. It seems to mix sorcery and science..or is that super science and sorcery?  LOL
I'm still hoping Warlords of the Apocalypse sees the light of day, Owen K. Stephens responded to a recent email of mine and indicated he still plans on releasing it.  : )

If Mutant Future is more your game, The Knotty-Works have released quite a few resources for Mutant Future including  free Mutant Lord Screen Inserts

Skirmisher Publishing also has a ton of Mutant Future stuff for your Mutant Future Campaigns, their Wisdom of the Wastelands series is up to issue #50 and is a very affordable way to expand your Apocalypse!

Guess I'll wrap this up for now! Stay cool and Good Gaming! -B

The Flesh Weavers

I haven't talked about The Mutant Epoch RPG in awhile, hoping to get a campaign of it off the ground at some point when scheduling permits.  I recently (as in yesterday) picked up the latest release for this awesome P.A. RPG.  An adventure for third rank (level) characters called The Flesh Weavers. Check out the amazing cover artwork!
You can learn more about it HERE
I haven't had time to read it from cover to cover yet, but it has great art and looks like a fun and twisted adventure, definitely seems to have some horror elements to it, as you can see from the expressions on the faces of the excavator team on the cover above.
If you like The Mutant Epoch RPG, I encourage you to pick this one up.
Good Gaming -B.

Giant Squidshark

Giant Squidshark
No. Enc. 1 (1d6)
Alignment : Neutral
Movement : Swim 180' (60')
Armor Class : 5
Hit Dice :  6
Attacks : 8 (7 tentacles, 1 bite)
Damage : 1d4/2d8
Save : F3
Morale : 7
Hoard Class : None

Appearance : Fearsome predators combining the features of a shark and squid. Giant Squidsharks can grow to be over 20' long.

Further Description:
Unlike regular sharks and squids these beasts can be found in both fresh and salt water. They are aggressive and often hunt in packs. Like a common shark they can smell blood up to 300' away. They use their tentacles to grasp prey on boats or near the water. Riverfolk have learned the hard way not to sleep along the waterline. On a successful hit the tentacles inflict 1d4 points of constrictive damage, and continue to inflict this constrictive damage on following rounds. A tentacle can be severed by causing 6 hit points of damage, after losing 4 tentacles a squidshark will likely (60% chance) swim away, but first it will release a 30' cloud of obscuring ink to cover its escape.

It's been ages since I posted anything of substance.  I recently picked up the Weirdworld #1 comic.  One of the beasts briefly encountered in it is the Giant Squidshark.  Thought I'd dust off my books and stat this beastie up.
