Why don't they show cartoons like this on Cartoon Network????
I'm ashamed to admit it, but I had actually forgotten this POTA cartoon series existed. I only got to see some of it back in the day. Guess I need to track it down on DVD. Has anyone noticed how alot of the cartoons and shows we grew up with are no longer shown on T.V./Cable? I mean yeah Thundarr is back and I've seen some Johnny Quest which is awesome, but when was the last time you saw an old He-Man cartoon? or Flash Gordon, Thundercats, G.I. Joe?? I said to my teenagers the other day, "Knowing is half the battle," with a wink and they looked at me like I was nuts! Course they usually look at me that way anyways...
And where's my Three Stooges??!!!! ok rant off...
: )
Bad monkey boy! Forgetting the POTA cartoon.
ReplyDeleteS'okay, a lot of people forget there was a Star Trek cartoon too. Both those series found new life in animation. Heck, the ST cartoon even had the original cast as voice actors and the episodes are considered canon.
I have been trying to track down the copies of the mag sized b&w comic (with color cover) they did back in the early 70's ('73-'74?). I have looked over tons of stuff but I can't seem to find the ones that had a continuing storyline that was much like BENEATH but followed another human who stumbled upon a derailed train and followed the tracks into the underground.
ReplyDeleteThe most messed up thing-the animated series was better than the live series.
Cool theme song.
ReplyDeleteHey Bill, did you pick up the first issue of the new Boom! Studios comic?
and both of them were were actually geared toward adults as well. Many of those stories were quite intricate.
ReplyDeleteEli...haning my head in shame... : )
ReplyDeleteADD Grognard, your right those were some great issues! I've featured several of the covers in previous Simian Saturday posts.
Trey, my local comic shop hadn't gotten them in yet. : (
Anthony, your right, which is part of the reason why I want them back on TV!! : )
Growing up this along with Valley Of The Dinosaurs, Lands of the Lost, etc. these were my favorite cartoons. This was a very cool cartoon.
ReplyDeleteFascinating. I missed this BITD. Notice how they show those hominids crucified upside-down in the start? Kinda grabs your attention immediately.
ReplyDeleteThe Animated Trek spent a long time in non-canon hell; it's only been in the last decade or so that it has been canonized.
ReplyDeleteHulu has all the episodes as far as I could tell. I watched the 1st with my baby boy and he'd get bored when apes weren't on the screen but when they were he'd get excited and yell "Monkeys".
